Strategic Opportunities Policy Lead - Japan (Government Relations)

What you can expect

The Strategic Opportunities Policy Lead for Japan is a unique hybrid role combining traditional government relations work with public sector sales support to accelerate Zoom's growth in Japan's public sector. You will have a key role in partnering with cross-functional teams and leaders to grow Zoom's visibility, reputation, and adoption across the government. This position represents a non-traditional approach to government relations, focusing 30-40% on sales partnership activities and 60-70% on traditional government relations work.
You will be based in Tokyo, and report directly to the Japan country leader, with a dotted line to the Chief Global Affairs Officer in Washington, D.C. .

About the Team

At zoom, our Government Relations Team is a dynamic and strategic force dedicated to navigating the intricate intersection of policy, politics, and business. We are committed to fostering close relationships with government entities. This team plays a pivotal role in ensuring our organization's continued business success and positive impact on society.

What we’re looking for

  • Have 8 years of experience in public policy and experience working with senior government officials and public policy professionals in Japan.
  • Have a deep understanding of Japan's public policy environment and government structure.
  • Have experience in technology sector public policy development and advocacy, including privacy, AI, cybersecurity, and telecommunications.
  • Have the ability to communicate and write in Native Japanese and Business English
  • Have a solid relationship-building skills across diverse external and internal stakeholders.
  • Have an understanding of telco regulations for communication platforms in Japan.
  • Have a good communication skills and professional integrity.
  • Have a relevant education in law, public policy, business, or related field.
