POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Engineer will contribute to testing the entire purview of applications and technical projects at Upkeep: web app, mobile apps, internal apps, APIs, and other technologies developed. The Quality Engineer will plan and make decisions on test execution strategies, approaches and methods across various types of testing such as feature, release, and regression testing, collaborating with the team for transparency, ideation and knowledge-sharing. Additionally, the Quality Engineer will strongly engage with the team to champion Quality processes and feedback across the entire project SDLC, from commitments, estimations, and requirements to scrum ceremonies such as grooming and retrospectives. The use of data and analytics to contribute to decision-making while maintaining creative thought leadership and the ability to adopt multiple perspectives is a strong plus.
The role will primarily be manual testing initially, and will grow to include test automation and/or test automation tactical guidance for the assigned project team in addition to manual and planning responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage as a full member of a fast-paced, iterative project team through collaboration, feedback, ideation and consistent communication.
- Maintain technology expertise, research, and apply state-of-the-art software testing standards, tools, and practices.
- Ideate, develop and execute manual software testing and processes.
- Design, develop, and administer usability test scenarios.
- Create robust test plans that include requirement validations.
- Conduct testing and prepare simple, streamlined documentation on progress and results efficiently, while maintaining primary focus on test strategy and execution.
- Analyze test results and present issues to the development team in real time, ensuring quick feedback loops and regular, transparent communication.
- Participate in daily team scrums, meetings and ceremonies.
- Contribute to test automation and lead the project team’s test automation deliverables and strategy as the Quality Subject Matter Expert.
- Directly participate in team meetings, using strategic questions to explore requirements, identify risks and own the decisions on test coverage.
EXPERIENCE
- Senior level of experience and proof of excellence, with at least 2 different companies in work history
- Solid understanding of the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process, including comprehending business and functional requirements, developing automation, and implementing testable solutions when needed
- Experience in a mature Agile environment with a complete understanding of Agile processes and iterations, including ongoing and real-time communication and equal collaboration with the project team
- Direct engagement with teams and organizations to ensure strong Quality practices and provide impactful ideation and feedback.
- Experience with test automation, preferably with mid-level or above javascript knowledge or similar programming language.
- Experience with using AI for test automation, development, systems engineering, performance testing, accessibility or adjacent experience a plus.

COMPENSATION
This role will receive a competitive base salary + annual bonus + benefits + equity. A variety of factors are considered when determining someone’s compensation–including a candidate’s professional background, experience, and location. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed below.
The pay range for this role is $140,000 - $150,000 USD per year.
