Job Summary:
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to ensure the implementation of new tooling, new processes, and scaling our maritime Autonomous Surface Vessels. This role is responsible for integrating new and advanced manufacturing equipment seamlessly into the shipyard’s capabilities, supporting the transition from low rate to high-volume production, and spearheading the adoption of new automated manufacturing assets and software enhancements.
This highly cross functional role bridges design engineering, quality engineering, ship build engineering, and production teams setting up our products for success as we move from development to full-rate production.
Responsibilities:
Lead the manufacturing development of processes and tooling requirements for building / constructing Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs).
Collaborate with other engineers to ensure tooling and processes add efficiency gains while meeting product specifications.
Operate as liaison between engineering, quality, and production to resolve challenges that arise during design and construction.
Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions for vessel construction and processes.
Support documentation, technical writing, and preparation of reports for internal use, regulatory bodies, and client presentations.
Onboard new automated manufacturing assets, collaborating with software and production engineering to drive improvements in software products that support production processes.
Driving manufacturing process improvements across all areas and functions of our operational system.
Identify and resolve emerging needs on the manufacturing floor.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Strong communication skills across engineers, technicians, quality teams, and leadership.
Comfortable working in a combined indoor/outdoor industrial shipyard environment.
Will be required to work aloft (on scaffold or on manlifts) and in confined spaces occasionally.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
May require travel to suppliers and other manufacturing sites.
Follow all shipyard safety policies, including proper use of PPE, fire prevention, and confined space protocols.
Job Proficiency:
Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX).
Experience working in a shipyard or onboard ships.
Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings, GD&T, weld symbols, and fabrication tolerances.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (CNC machining, welding, aluminum fabrication, additive manufacturing, etc.)
Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Occasional standing and walking within the office / shipyard.
Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports.
Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies.
Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, packages).
