Position Responsibilities

About the Role

Lead the team building the world's first truly AI-native ERP system—from the ground up.

Join Deltek's Engineering and Technology leadership to oversee the AI Applications engineering group on an unprecedented greenfield project. Your team will create conversational interfaces that replace traditional ERP workflows, develop ambient agents that automate business processes intelligently, and use AI development tools to achieve unprecedented velocity.

This isn't legacy maintenance or incremental improvement. You'll build a high-performing team defining a new category of enterprise software where AI transforms both the product and how we build it.

You'll balance people leadership, technical guidance, and delivery on a project where innovation is around every corner. Your engineers will use AI to write better code. Your product will use AI to revolutionize user experience. Your leadership will establish patterns for AI-first software development.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership & Development

  • Build, lead, and scale a team of 5+ applications engineers across multiple levels to align with organizational culture
  • Provide mentorship, career development, and coaching to grow engineers' technical and leadership capabilities
  • Conduct performance evaluations, set clear expectations, and provide continuous feedback
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture that values innovation, learning, and technical excellence
  • Develop succession planning and identify high-potential team members

Technical Oversight & Quality

  • Partner with architects and principal engineers on implementing technical vision for AI-powered ERP features
  • Ensure your team follows established architectural patterns and engineering best practices
  • Maintain sufficient technical depth to guide engineers and evaluate implementation approaches
  • Drive adoption of coding standards, prompt engineering patterns, and development practices
  • Ensure code quality through code review processes and engineering excellence initiatives
  • Stay informed on emerging AI/ML technologies relevant to your team's work

Delivery & Execution

  • Own delivery of your team's roadmap, ensuring predictable, high-quality releases
  • Partner with product management to translate business requirements into technical plans
  • Implement agile practices that maximize team effectiveness and velocity
  • Identify and remove blockers; escalate and resolve cross-team dependencies
  • Establish metrics to measure team health, delivery performance, and code quality
  • Support operational excellence including incident response and system reliability
  • Manage technical debt strategically, balancing feature delivery with code quality

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with product management, UX, and engineering teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences
  • Collaborate with leadership and architects on implementation planning and resource needs
  • Represent your team's capabilities and priorities in cross-functional planning

AI-First Mindset
This role requires embracing an AI-first approach where GenAI and agentic AI tools are essential collaborators, not optional supplements. We expect team members who naturally think in AI-enhanced workflows and proactively integrate intelligent automation to solve ERP development challenges more efficiently.

The ideal candidate has strong interest in prompt engineering techniques and conversational AI systems, with understanding of how to craft effective prompts for business contexts. You should be curious about natural language processing and how AI enhances user experiences, along with basic awareness of AI ethics and prompt safety considerations.

We're looking for someone who approaches ERP feature development by first asking: "How can AI help me build this functionality faster and better?" This includes being comfortable with rapid AI tool evolution, eager to experiment with new AI capabilities for prompt engineering and ERP optimization, and committed to sharing AI-enhanced approaches with the team.
