At Mechanical Orchard, we specialize in safely rewriting the most critical and complex business applications—the software that runs the world as we know it today—so they’re ready to adapt quickly and easily to market challenges and opportunities. Our approach emerged from observing the decades-long failure patterns in modernization efforts and is designed to eliminate the risks and disruptions that characterize most projects.
Our background in software development and the impact on the industry is well known: we've literally helped write the book on XP and other impactful Agile practices. We’re applying the same thoughtfulness and rigor in applying AI pragmatically where it helps. We believe in the durable principles behind Agile, and embrace the power of cross-functional teams, collective ownership, test driven development, short feedback loops, and continuous improvement.
We’re bringing joy to beleaguered IT teams everywhere. Together, we’re seeing how applying craft, expertise, and technologies we’re building can fundamentally transform the way companies operate, innovate, and win. Our values are: Do the right thing. Do what works. Be kind.
About the role
We’re seeking a Product Manager for Imogen Data, the part of our platform that captures and manages data from legacy systems and turns it into a format that can be used to verify the readiness of modernized workloads before going into production. The Imogen Data team owns an early version of tools that are already deployed and in use with our customers. We need a PM to help us evolve this part of our platform from MVP to enterprise-scale, making it robust enough to succeed in environments at some of the largest and most well-known companies around the world.
Product Managers at Mechanical Orchard are dedicated to one team and work closely with a team of software engineers, as well as cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing and our forward-deployed engineering teams. They balance long-term strategy with tactical delivery and apply modern product thinking to problems that have resisted innovation for decades. They identify and mitigate risk through effective stakeholder communication, cross-discipline collaboration, and by providing clarity and focus for teams. They apply an entrepreneurial and iterative mindset to the complex and highly technical problems of legacy software modernization.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for
- Defining the product vision and strategy for your team
- Collaborating closely with our forward-deployed engineering teams as well as technical partners to deeply understand the product experience
- Identifying and prioritizing product investments based on user needs and business goals
- Partnering with engineering and technical leadership to define your team’s roadmap
- Driving execution of the team's work in close collaboration with technical leadership
- Representing your product internally and externally with executive stakeholders, technical partners and customers
- Articulating customer value and benefits of your team’s offering and help position it within an evolving market landscape
You’re a good fit if you have
- A Bachelors or Masters degree in a technical field
- 4+ years in a product management role in a highly technical environment, preferably with strong exposure to data products
- A strong technical background, ability to grasp technical concepts and establish credibility with engineers
- Experience building products at enterprise-scale
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and comfort with presenting to various audiences across seniority levels
- The ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-quality product experiences on tight timelines and in line with our business aspirations
- A bias for action - you’re not afraid to jump from writing a spec or story to talking to a customer or figuring out a new way to use AI tools to your advantage
People in this role will have a high degree of autonomy and responsibility, with frequent team-to-team communication and interaction with all levels of leadership.
