Legal Team at Crunchbase
We are seeking a highly-motivated attorney with 10+ years experience (ideally a combination of working at a large firm and in-house for a growth-stage technology company) to lead our established Legal function. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer as a member of the Finance-Operations team, this attorney will work closely with Crunchbase’s existing commercial attorneys and cross-functional groups—including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Business Development and Sales—focusing primarily on compliance and corporate matters, but also assisting with commercial transactions, financings, mergers and acquisitions and supporting the continuous improvement of Crunchbase’s legal operations/processes.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead a team of attorneys working cross-functionally in support of key compliance, corporate and commercial matters along with managing claims
- Advise the business on product, data privacy/security (GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, etc.), marketing/advertising, employment and general compliance issues
- Review, draft and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including inbound and outbound Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Data-as-a-Service (DaaS), partnership, vendor, professional service, cloud service, enterprise, marketing and reseller agreements
- Help the company maintain and enforce its intellectual property rights (including copyrights and trademarks)
- Respond to regulatory inquiries
- Maintain the company’s governing terms (Terms of Service, Privacy Policies, etc.)
- Conduct Data Privacy Impact Assessments
- Assist with security and data collection questionnaires
- Assist with equity and debt financings and collections
- Sit on the company’s Information Security Task Force
- Handle corporate registrations/certifications
- Assist with corporate governance
- Support the CX team as it responds to data subject requests
- Supervise in-house and outside counsel
- Draft and implement policies and procedures to ensure legal standard methodologies
- Support the continuous improvement of Crunchbase’s legal operations/processes, including our template agreements, CLM and tech stack
What We’re Looking For:
- Law degree with excellent academic performance
- License to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant and recent legal practice with a focus on product counseling for a growth-stage technology company a plus
- Strong business acumen and project management skills
- Outstanding business negotiation skills and effective client counseling skills
- Collaborates well with both Legal (in-house and outside counsel) and business team members
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) (or similar relevant certification) and experience working with Ironclad are not required, but a bonus
Base Salary: $216,000-254,100. You may also be entitled to incentive compensation, equity and benefits.
