As an International Accounting Controller, you will help build the Mexico subsidiary to support the center of acceleration for Blend’s G&A functions. In addition, you will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations for Blend while ensuring compliance with local regulations and corporate policies. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, payroll, tax, HR, IT and legal, to support decision-making and provide accurate financial information. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in accounting, exceptional analytical skills, and a strong understanding of international accounting standards.

How you'll contribute:

  • Manage and supervise the accounting activities of our international subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with local statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures in line with international accounting standards, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all entities
  • Assist in developing best-in-class shared services functions, with a focus on automation
  • Monitor and review financial statements, general ledger, and other financial reports to identify discrepancies and propose corrective actions
  • Collaborate with tax advisors and legal teams to ensure compliance with tax regulations and transfer pricing policies
  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements for international entities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting principles
  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process for international operations, providing financial insights and analysis
  • Implement internal controls and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements
  • Liaise with external auditors and oversee the annual audit process for international subsidiaries
  • Stay updated on changes in international accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements, ensuring compliance and implementing necessary changes as required
  • Provide guidance and support to the accounting team, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master's degree or professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is highly desirable
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on international accounting and consolidation
  • Strong knowledge of international accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, US GAAP) and experience applying them in a multinational environment
  • Proven experience in managing accounting operations for international subsidiaries, including month-end and year-end closings, financial reporting, and audits
  • Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems; experience with NetSuite is preferred
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic insights
  • Strong understanding of tax regulations and transfer pricing principles
  • Knowledge of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO) and experience implementing internal controls
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Fluency in English and Spanish; additional languages are a plus
