The Risk Portfolio team sits within the Risk Management division and is responsible for KPI development, portfolio performance tracking, financial loss forecasting, and the data science and engineering capabilities that power risk operations across BILL's product spectrum. This team serves as a strategic partner to senior risk leadership, translating complex portfolio data into clear guidance on resource allocation, risk-adjusted returns, and growth enablement.

In this role, you will lead a team of data scientists and analysts focused on fraud and credit risk portfolio management, building the models, policies, and reporting infrastructure that protect BILL and the hundreds of thousands of SMBs who depend on our financial automation platform. Responsibilities:

  • Own fraud and credit risk portfolio management across BILL's product spectrum, including performance monitoring, KPI tracking, and the preparation of regular analysis and reporting for senior leadership.
  • Lead financial loss forecasting and risk-adjusted return analysis, identifying concentration risks, diversification opportunities, and portfolio optimization strategies that support growth enablement.
  • Design and implement end-to-end solutions for customer acquisition and monitoring domains, including policies, rule strategies, ML/AI model strategies, product requirements, governance structures, and decision management frameworks.
  • Direct investments in risk management systems, including in-product and back-end controls, rule-based and predictive risk models, and third-party risk assessment tools.
  • Provide strategic guidance on resource allocation to maximize risk-adjusted returns, using data-driven insights to influence senior risk and business leaders on portfolio strategy.
  • Lead and develop a team of strategy data scientists, supporting career growth, coaching on advanced analytical techniques, and building a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams across risk operations, product, compliance, and finance to establish new payment and risk management policies and controls in support of new and existing product offerings.

We'd love to chat if you have:

  • 10 or more years of experience in credit risk, fraud risk, or portfolio analytics within financial services or fintech, with demonstrated domain expertise in risk management principles and frameworks.
  • 6 or more years of people leadership experience, with a track record of building and developing analytics or data science teams in a results-oriented environment.
  • Strong data science and quantitative analysis skills, including hands-on experience with predictive modeling, ML/AI model strategies, and the application of models to real-world risk decisions.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, or SAS, with the ability to work directly with data and coach team members on advanced analytical and coding techniques.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting portfolio performance and risk strategy recommendations to senior leadership.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with credit card authorization data and systems, or experience across non-traditional credit products.
  • Experience with AI fluency and the integration of AI-influenced analytics within risk operations workflows.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field; master's degree is a plus.
