Make your impact within a rapidly growing Fintech Company

BILL is looking for a Staff Performance Engineer to help design and build a comprehensive performance test framework. This framework will be used by engineering teams across BILL to anticipate and catch performance issues and identify bottlenecks in both pre-production and production environments. This is a high visibility position that will play a pivotal role in this product’s success, and make an impact across the company!

We’d love to chat if you have:

  • 8+ years experience in performance engineering, spanning backend and frontend development, database systems, and CI/CD pipeline setup
  • Proven track record in establishing performance and load test frameworks from the ground up
  • Strong coding proficiency, emphasizing the writing and review of clean, efficient, and performant code
  • Familiarity with a range of performance monitoring and profiling tools, along with CI/CD platforms such as GitLab, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Comprehensive understanding of benchmark creation, load measurement, and system behavior modeling and collaborating with teams to articulate them
  • Ability to add custom instrumentation in existing code to monitor performance
  • Proficiency in using open-source profiling tools to pinpoint performance bottlenecks and optimize code
  • Solid grasp of OS fundamentals across Mac, Linux, and Windows environments, with expertise in resolving OS-level and browser-related performance issues
  • Ability to diagnose and optimize performance bottlenecks at the code level, coupled with experience in JVM internals, performance profiling, and optimization
  • Strong leadership with driving initiatives across diverse teams and proactively addressing potential production performance impacts
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling the diagnosis and resolution of complex performance issues
  • Preferred background in technical leadership or mentorship roles
  • Strong experience with observability and monitoring tools such as DataDog and Splunk
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field is preferred

The estimated salary range for this role is noted below for our San Jose based role. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.
