Software Engineer, Onboard Platform

Join the team bringing advanced autonomy to the built world
At Bedrock, we’re moving AI out of the lab and into the real world. Our team is composed of industry veterans who helped launch Waymo, scaled Segment to a $3.2B acquisition, and grew Uber Freight to $5B in revenue. Today, we’re deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction machinery across the country, accelerating project schedules of billion-dollar infrastructure projects and improving safety on job sites. Backed by $350M in funding, we’re working quickly to close the gap between America's surging demand for housing, data centers, manufacturing hubs, and the construction industry's growing labor shortage.
This is where algorithms meet steel-toed boots. You’ll collaborate with construction veterans and world-class engineers to solve physical-world problems that simulations can’t touch. If you're ready to apply cutting-edge technology to solve meaningful problems alongside a talented team—we'd love to have you join us.
About The Role
The Onboard Infrastructure team builds the software foundation Bedrock's autonomous machines run on — the layer between raw hardware and the autonomy stack that keeps every machine working reliably hours from the nearest engineer, in harsh environments and on lossy connectivity, doing real work on billion-dollar projects. We build the whole stack in Rust, from board bring-up through applications.
We're looking for a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to build and own core parts of the main autonomy compute platform, from the OS and drivers to the system services and connectivity. You'll take these systems from first bring-up through reliable operation in the field, keeping the platform fast, secure, and dependable at fleet scale.
What You'll Do
Bring up next-generation compute and sensors as we expand to new machine types
Build and optimize the drivers and data paths that move high-bandwidth sensor data into the autonomy stack with low latency
Develop the core system services that keep a fleet running reliably: software updates, lifecycle management, health monitoring, and connectivity
Optimize CPU and GPU performance and scheduling for mixed-criticality, real-time workloads
Establish the diagnostics and observability that let a small team keep a growing fleet healthy
Required Qualifications:
Experience building and shipping embedded systems in robotics, automotive, drones, or other high-performance embedded contexts
Strong embedded Linux background spanning from kernel and drivers to services and performance
Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust, and excitement to work primarily in Rust
Track record of leading projects, driving design decisions, and working effectively across hardware, autonomy, and platform teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the NVIDIA Jetson ecosystem
Bringing up new hardware and building custom Linux distributions using Yocto
Working with cameras, lidars, IMUs, GPS, and other sensors common in robotics and autonomy
Optimizing ML inference and other GPU workloads on embedded compute (e.g., CUDA, TensorRT)
OTA, secure boot, connectivity, telemetry, diagnostics and other production-hardening aspects for connected fleets
Our roles are often flexible. If you don't fit all the criteria, or are in another location (especially one where we have an office like SF or NY) please apply anyway! We'd love to consider you.
