At Ando, we’re rebuilding messaging software for a human-agent collaborative era. It’s not enough for it to just “work” or be at parity with Slack. Ando needs to “feel” like it’s working alongside you - it needs to be fast, beautiful, helpful, and predictive. Ando needs to be good enough for our users to want to spend hours of their days in for their working lives, and convince their friends to do the same.

We’re looking for founding engineers with strong product instincts and an obsessive attention to detail. Bonus points for speed demons.

What we're doing at Ando

  • Teams are already building agents and using them across Slack, email, and other tools. But these platforms weren't designed for human-AI collaboration. The answer isn't a better Slack though; we're rethinking communications from the ground up to support better collaboration between humans and agents.

Why you should join Ando, when you have a sea of other options?

  • You like the messy beauty of early stage, and you want the late nights with a small team that you’ll remember years later

  • You prefer the dopamine of working on software that will get into hundreds of thousands of users' hands, vs working on enterprise, forward-deployed software

  • You want to do the best work of your life with people who push you to be better, and you want to help build that team too

We deeply care about using AI in our work. Don't proceed with applying if:

  • You don't love LLMs / don't use them daily - And if you're not there yet, you should endeavor to be a DAU!

  • You don't value craft and cannot speak to software that inspires you

What you’ll be doing at Ando:

  • Architect and ship core messaging infrastructure that feels instant, reliable, & magical

  • Tend to the ‘invisible’ aspects of the product, such as retrieval & evals

  • Prototype (alongside our designer) new interaction patterns for how humans and agents work together

  • Create an API and agent developer platform that outside builders actually love to use

  • Experiment with tool calling evals to figure out what really works in practice

  • Iterate on our context and retrieval systems

  • Raise our bar for engineering craft, help with recruiting, and hold the line on quality

  • Use Ando every day, give blunt feedback, and turn it into product improvements

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full time SWE work

  • A deep interest in the quirks of LLMs and agents, memory systems, tool use, etc

  • Ability to work very fast without cutting corners on quality
